Crisis Management Phase 1

Proactivity and Prevention

Proactivity and Prevention

The first phase of a crisis management plan is a pre-crisis phase, which is based on a mode of proactivity and prevention, preparation and detection of signals, with anticipation and prediction of real and potential risks within an organization and capacity development to control these risks.

At this stage, an organization should be permanently aware of the actions that its competition is taking and seek to assume itself as an alternative, while seeking a closer communication with stakeholders, making known the offer that distinguishes it.

When possible, it should benefit from the international advantage and seek to adapt services to the value innovations of other countries, while investing in advantage technology to be one step ahead of the competition, participating in lectures and conferences that promote digitization in organizations.

A company should prepare an action, communication, defense or attack strategy in advance, creating a database, updated and ready to use, with internal and external contacts to the company. At the same time, you will have to regularly test emergency communication channels (website, email, Facebook, LinkedIn, generalist and specialty OCS) and prepare a logo, higher impact media contacts and a standardized message to be displayed during the crisis in different media.

The creation of a “dark page” that can be activated during the crisis and ensure that the entire team knows how to activate and edit it in real time and the establishment of a

A specific “media zone” to target messages during the crisis and to create relationships with the media and social media influencers in real time is also an asset.

At the level of employees, the organization must assign each employee, or team, a clear and defined role of intervention and communication, with their responsibilities and structures to report and carry out various simulations and training with employees so that they know how to act promptly in a moment of crisis.

As for the leaders, the company must appoint internal responsibles to be in charge of different problems or threats that may arise, preparing them for each topic and ensuring that the leader is proactive and that he develops monitoring actions, fostering the bases of trust within the company (gain credibility and manage expectations of the stakeholders).

In preventing a crisis situation, whatever the type, there are options that have to be taken.

know how choose and apply the best ones.
