Startups innovate and reinvent Tourism

More than 50 Startups present proposals and solutions for Tourism in “What's Next – Innovating Tourism”. Organized by NEST – Centro de Inovação do Turismo, the event will feature a debate area on digitization, sharing the best ideas and practices for one of the strategic sectors of the Portuguese economy.

Lisbon, March 12, 2022 – Dozens of startups that are changing the rules and reinventing solutions will present their proposals for Tourism during “What's Next – Innovating Tourism”. The event, from March 16th to 18th, organized by NEST – Centro de Inovação do Turismo brings innovation to the forefront of the Lisbon Tourism Exchange (BTL) 2022.

From the “BTL Labs” stage, dedicated to innovation, dozens of startups will be present, organized and grouped by skills in different business valences and practical responses in the Business To Business (B2B) and Business To Consumer (B2C) logic.

Through the Talk2me Platform, visitors to BTL – the biggest tourism event held in Portugal – will also have the opportunity to talk to all the startups present in this space for debate and exchange of experiences on key themes for what is a strategic sector of the sector. Portuguese economy.

During “What's Next – Innovating Tourism” more than 40 speakers will take the stage, spread over three major areas of debate: Digitization, People and Sustainability. In the panel on Digitization, which will be hosted at the opening session by Luís Araújo, president of NEST, topics such as Biometrics, Anaytics or Blockchain will be discussed.

Shared vision on the future of Tourism

Along with the agenda at FIL, in Lisbon, “What's Next – Innovating Tourism” will also feature a set of four sessions, taking place outside BTL, which bring the vision of leaders from other areas of society and the economy to the tourism sector.

These will be made available on NEST's YouTube channel and, on March 15, there will also be a conversation dedicated to the Digital Revolution with Inês Drummond Borges, CTO of Sonae Sierra, and António Câmara, Chairman of YGroup.

“What's Next – Innovating Tourism” is organized by The Next Big Idea, an innovation platform, and has the SIC and the Express as partners of medium.

BTL 2022 bets on new sectors, such as innovation, culture, wine tourism and nature tourism, but also gives continuity to areas such as the BTL LAB.

The BTL LAB, in charge of the NEST – Innovation Center for Tourism of Portugal, is a space dedicated to the dissemination of companies that work in the sector of innovation in tourism. In addition to showing startups, the LAB is an important stage for debate, trends and exchange of experiences on the subject of innovation and technology.

Its dynamism is based on complementary initiatives with the aim of thinking, debating and applying the future of tourism, an industry that seeks resurgence in a post-pandemic readaptation and which, in the Portuguese case, corresponds to almost 20% of GDP.
