Filipe Nogueira is the new Special Counsel to Mazars' Tax group. With more than 20 years' experience in the area, he will lead the consultancy's VAT department in Portugal

Lisbon, September 16th, 2019 - Filipe Nogueira is the new Special Counsel for the Tax group of Mazars and will now coordinate all of the consultancy's VAT projects in the Portuguese market. The appointment comes against a backdrop of various challenges in the area of tax consultancy, associated with the complexity of tax rules and the issues that arise in relation to their interpretation and application to the specific situations that companies and other agents face in the course of their business.

In order to overcome these challenges, provide rigorous advice and bring added value to clients, it is necessary not only to have in-depth knowledge of tax rules and case law, but also to have the necessary experience to know, anticipate and overcome issues and difficulties that naturally arise from the application of tax rules in different sectors of activity.

For the work to be done at Mazars, Filipe Nogueira highlights a professional background focused on the tax area and in particular VAT, so his priority will be to "to help develop and grow the VAT area, as a specialized group within Tax. Nevertheless, and as a result of my knowledge of the Portuguese market and business fabric, I will always try to position both Tax and the other areas of Mazars (Audit, Accounting & Outsourcing, Advisory) so that we can provide an integrated service to our clients."

With more than 20 years' experience as a tax consultant in the VAT area, Filipe Nogueira has accompanied and advised entities in the most varied sectors of activity (finance, real estate, retail, tourism, public sector and health, among others). He has Head of VAT Optimization and Knowledge Management at Ryan VAT Systems, an international group of integrated tax solutions companies with a presence in over 50 countries, and Associate Partner of Deloitte's VAT group. In his career he has also participated in and led training courses in Portugal and abroad.
