Leiloeira Santo Eloy Adds Value to Assets

Santo Eloy Auctioneer

Santo Eloy Auctioneer

This month, Leiloeira Santo Eloy begins its activity with the motto "VALUING WHAT HAS VALUE", making the knowledge and research of the pieces to be auctioned, transparency towards the public and a sense of social solidarity factors of differentiation and gaining trust. At a time of profound transformation and uncertainty, the auction house aims to offer an alternative to the market and to value what is valuable.

Leiloeira Santo Eloy opened its doors in December 2020, focusing on Gold, Silver, Jewelry, Watches and Precious Stones auctions with criteria of excellence. Specializing in the jewellery sector and supported by a team with decades of experience, the auction house stands out for its careful process of research, classification and evaluation of the pieces to be auctioned and for its attention to making their real value known and evident. It undertakes to promote training courses in the goldsmithing sector, lectures, gatherings, etc. It also offers restoration and recovery services for all items of jewellery, including antique and modern watches.

The new auction house has in its genesis partners who belong to the second and third generations of antique dealers, with a six-decade presence in the market. A multidisciplinary team and experienced experts of the highest professional standard guarantee high criteria and quality in the evaluation and classification of the pieces to be selected and presented to the public.

The aim of Leiloeira Santo Eloy is to serve the public in general, and especially collectors and investors of this type of piece in particular, with a specificity that is the guarantee of the quality of the work, valuing what is valuable, differentiating an ordinary object from a Work of Art and also with social concern.

"We believe that our mission is to bring added value to the market and provide the public with more enlightening and transparent information, using the example of the upright character of Saint Eloy, patron of goldsmiths, as a model for the open and honest way in which we want to be present in this market." says José Baptista, Founder of Leiloeira Santo Eloy.

This idea of reference and elevation helps to explain why they embarked on this project in an economic scenario that seems counterproductive to investment and risk: to bring something new to the market, with a performance guided by a clear relationship with the public and a quest to share knowledge about the pieces in their care and their preservation.

The auction house's entry into the market comes against a backdrop of particular challenges and an environment of transformation in the sector. The widespread economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has brought with it financial difficulties for companies and individuals, and a consequent demand for auctions as a way of selling assets.

It is in response to this demand to sell at any cost and the loss of proximity in the relationship between auctioneer and client that Leiloeira Santo Eloy is positioning itself. Under the motto of Creating value for what has valueThe auction house bases its operations on the five C's: Knowledge, Competence, Commitment, Trust and Complicity. The proposed mission is to go beyond the most obvious value of each piece and assign its fair value, considering its history and timeless relevance as a piece of art and cultural and artistic heritage.

"The house is based on decades of experience and the technical capacity of a specialized team with a perfectly defined purpose: to give value to what has value. We see this ability to carry out an in-depth investigation of each of the pieces to be auctioned as extremely important, achieved through a more in-depth study of their journey, their masters, their techniques, among other elements of evaluation." adds José Baptista, who for many years has been one of the sector's leading figures in Portugal.

The rules of social distancing have forced an adaptation to the digitalization of the market, with the impossibility of holding face-to-face events leading to an exponential increase in online auctions. As part of this adaptation and its mission, Leiloeira Santo Eloy proposes to hold themed auctions, creating partnerships with humanitarian institutions, giving training courses and organizing lectures and gatherings open to the jewellery sector and the general public (in person and online).

A charity auction to be held in March 2021 to support the mission of the Doctors of the World Association also marks the start of the auction house's activity. 5% of the proceeds from the initiative, which will feature a catalog of items donated by the association's donors and private individuals, will be used to raise funds to provide health care to needy populations in the areas of HIV/AIDS, chronic and debilitating diseases, mental health, psychosocial support and social exclusion.
