- Talent management with a focus on personal development and career progression
- Mazars recruits 30 new Trainees, Seniors and Managers for Lisbon and Porto offices
- Actions implemented to promote diversity and inclusive leadership
Lisbon, September 22, 2021 - Since June, Mazars has taken on 30 new employees, in a move geared towards the strategic objectives of global growth in the firm's various business areas - Advisory, Audit, Consulting, Outsourcing and Tax - with this action being part of the goals of attracting and retaining talent with a focus on the evolution of Mazars in Portugal. The current context, with its implications for the need and speed with which people and organizations adapt, is giving rise to new demands associated with the development and well-being of professionals and requires a new vision for talent management.
According to Luís Gaspar, Managing Partner of Mazars in Portugal, "More and more players in the auditing market are faced with the need to retain talent and find ways to reconcile the expectations of a new generation of professionals - who are looking for more flexibility and adaptability - with the demands of the auditing profession and quality assurance delivery. We recognize that our People are our most important asset and we take responsibility for promoting their professional progression and development from the moment they join us. The aim is to help them grow as specialists in their respective areas and empower them to lead, keeping them up to date and prepared to respond to diverse clients in an environment of new challenges.".
In view of these objectives, "Leading Mazars" - implemented by Mazars and promoted by a consultancy specializing in Leadership Development programs - began in 2021 with the involvement of all Mazars Partners, Associate Partners, Senior Managers and Managers in Portugal. This program will also be extended to all Seniors over the next year. For the time being, the investment in leadership includes reflection activities peer to peer, networking between managers and exchange of best practices, training/coaching/inspiration through people management tools, individual accompaniment to all participants, personal reflection and self-development through the use of self awareness, among other initiatives aimed at empowering talent.
Professional development is less and less based on traditional training formats and more on providing a wide range of content related to technical, personal and interpersonal skills, delivered through support that is ever closer to individual needs and ambitions.
Long before the pandemic, the Mazars had already developed a digital solution with a wide range of content and training that allows each "Mazarian" to develop their skills, in a mixed scenario of their own initiative, suggestions from the other members of the team accompanying them or encouragement from the global team. In this way, both the relevant content developed externally by specialists and that developed by Mazars teams around the world is centralized, helping to maximize the capacity and knowledge of employees and teams.
Diversity is a key topic on the Mazars Group's global management agenda, which is also reflected in the strategy developed in Portugal. Diversity is the foundation of Mazars as partnership integrated, deeply rooted in the local territories and cultures in which it operates. Value for the business, customers and communities is created by adopting different perspectives, empowering employees and adding diverse experiences, visions and skills, recognizing and rewarding difference.
Making the most of these differences - which include age, culture, education, sex and gender expression, language, religion, sexual orientation, socio-economic background and working style - in an inclusive way makes it possible to solve problems, enhance the offer and respond more adequately to customer needs.
It's not just a question of doing the right thing, but of having a growth factor, performance factor and engagement broader. As a multicultural company, Mazars strives to create a safe and stimulating environment for its people, with a particular focus on improving gender balance: today, more than half of Mazars' employees in Portugal are women, more than a third of its global leadership team is female and around 75% of the most representative countries in the Mazars network have developed and started implementing diversity action plans.
Mazars' current strategic plan contains a set of incentives and measures aimed at achieving greater gender equality. Mazars has entered into a partnership with the Gender Balance Observatory to promote female leadership and representation in its management teams, and a checklist has been drawn up to assess the actions already implemented in the company.
Mazars also has several task forces which seek to effectively understand the main challenges in terms of diversity, in order to understand local needs and foster a dialog between employees and top executives. These initiatives, which are also reflected in the strategy to be developed in Portugal and in the developments to be undertaken at a local level, are aimed at reducing the gap between the reality of the employees and the perspective of the leaders, and have proved to be fundamental not only for disseminating practices and identifying problems, but also, in cases of more advanced implementation, for obtaining results in terms of the performance and results of the teams.
