How to cultivate a relationship with the media

Media Relations - How to cultivate one?

media relations

One of the main concerns of any communications professional should be to create an excellent relationship with the media. Regardless of the area or organization in question, journalists are one of the main partners when it comes to public relations work.

The truth is that journalists have less and less time and, as a result, it's becoming increasingly difficult to establish that same relationship. The hundreds of emails they receive in their inboxes are a difficult obstacle to overcome, but not an impossible one.

In this regard, there are some strategies that should be put into practice.

It's important to realize that gaining a journalist's trust is a complicated and time-consuming process. Patience is one of the characteristics needed to succeed in this whole process. Rejecting a particular proposal should not be seen as a failure either.

Another strategy is to promote the work of journalists. The truth is that many journalists today are trapped by the dictatorship of clicks and will certainly be touched to see their work shared.

A final tip is to take advantage of the moments when you have the opportunity to meet journalists in person. No matter how many emails you send, nothing compares to face-to-face contact.
