Conference “Aprender@PT: Transforming the education and training model for the challenges of the future” takes place at the Porto Higher Institute of Engineering. The aim is to put human capital at the center of a vision for the 21st century.
Lisbon, October 10th - The “Portugal Agora” platform - www.portugalagora.com - is organizing the conference “Aprender@PT: Transforming the education and training model for the challenges of the future” on Thursday, October 12, at 6.30pm. The event will take place in Porto (Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto - Vítor Santos Auditorium).
In this event, the first of the Aprender@PT project, the aim is to formulate solutions to move from strategy to action on the issue of education and skills development, based on an essential principle: the focus on learning, as the starting point, and not on the “education system”, which should be a consequence.
And, specifically, to list measures that can accelerate this transformation in Portugal and put human capital at the center of a vision for the 21st century.

“This event aims to make a prospective analysis and consolidate proposals for a new learning paradigm”, says the president of the “Portugal Agora” platform. Specifically, Carlos Sezões adds, “how to give children, young people and adults the skills (personal, social) that will enable them, on the one hand, to fit in and build value in society, and, on the other, the skills to face the challenges of work in the 21st century.”.

Aprender@PT - which seeks to bring together knowledge and talent from various parts of society, opening up and facilitating everyone's participation through technology and linking strategy to action with the presentation of concrete proposals - was launched at the end of the summer and defined five challenges to be achieved on a national scale by 2030:
- Focus on key knowledge and skills for creating value in their professional activities and in the job markets of the future;
- Developing and scaling flexible pedagogical methodologies that take advantage of new technologies and trigger individualized and effective pathways - and support better lifelong learning;
- Redefining the role and competencies of the teacher as a facilitator of learning;
- Valuing the role of schools in learning and social innovation, in promoting citizenship and community involvement;
- Keeping pace with ongoing technological disruption, creating constantly renewed digital literacy processes to ensure their sustainability - as well as the critical and ethical sense that is indispensable in the evolution of these areas.
Over the next three months, the “Portugal Agora” platform, which aims to have influence and impact and is based on the assumption of thinking about the country in the medium and long term, will gather contributions from national and international experts on these issues.
The aim will be to define a set of concrete proposals that are effective responses to these challenges. An agenda to be implemented in Portugal by the public, private and social sectors, from a desirable perspective of intersectoral cooperation.
About Portugal Agora
It's a project which aims to promote a vision for our country based on 3 dimensions (Attractiveness, Knowledge, Entrepreneurship), with the aim of facilitating the transition from strategy to Action - generating concrete proposals for public policies or civil society initiatives. The project was built by a group of citizens (more than 350 subscribers, who are already listed on the website www.portugalagora.com) who have volunteered to promote a platform for realizing this vision.
