Development of Environmentally Responsible Policies
In recent years, brands have been focusing on more sustainable measures and ethical practices as a way to adapt to consumer demands, as consumers are increasingly expressing concerns about, for example, the environment or working conditions in the industry. Today we’ll look at five brands that are well known to consumers and that focus on developing environmentally responsible policies.
- Lidl
The German supermarket chain announced that by the end of 2019 it will stop selling plastic bags in its stores. This decision will make Lidl Portugal the first plastic-bag-free supermarket chain in Portugal. The measure will result in 25 million fewer plastic bags in circulation, but as an alternative, medium- and large-sized paper bags and the familiar raffia bags will be sold.
- Levis
The brand, known for inventing the famous jeans, works with a limited list of products, invests in renewable energy and in the manufacture of parts that use less water. It also uses sustainable 100% cotton. It has also eliminated the discharge of hazardous materials into the environment.
- H&M
The brand launched a collection of eveningwear made from sustainable 100% fabric, which uses bionic yarns to form a polyester composite made from plastic waste recovered from the oceans, such as plastic bottles and bags. It also used sustainable materials in swimsuits and bikinis for the first time, featuring pieces made from recycled polyamide and polyester.
- United Colors of Benetton
The brand recently unveiled the collection Bio Beachwear, a new line of women's swimwear made from organic fibers. This line uses a high-tech, plant-based nylon. This manufacturing process results in significant water savings and a 25% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions compared to conventional polyamide.
- Lisbon Collection
A brand The Portuguese brand uses Lyocell exclusively, a sustainable textile fiber. Environmental responsibility is a key pillar of the brand, which uses sustainable textiles to reduce environmental pollution.
