Prevent your car from bleeding this summer

Lack of attention to oil can lead to serious breakdowns that can cost up to 8,000 euros. Maintenance is a simple and quick task, costing around 100 euros.

Euromaster reminds you of the importance of having your vehicle checked. Don't let your car “bleed” this summer.

Lisbon, July 19th - As the first summer journeys begin, Euromaster, a network of workshops specializing in comprehensive vehicle maintenance, stresses the importance of properly servicing your vehicle, including changing the oil, as this is one of the essential maintenance tasks. Changing the oil and filter takes less than an hour and costs approximately 100 euros.

“The ”lifeblood" of the vehicle, oil runs through much of the engine's internal structure and has various properties, including reducing the wear caused by friction between the different elements that come into contact. For this reason, if it is in poor condition and has not been properly maintained, it can cause serious engine failure (at a cost of between €1,000 and €8,000).

Euromaster recalls that the oil filter should be replaced at every oil change. The fact that the renewed oil circulates in the vehicle's “veins” under optimum conditions - the filter's job is to prevent impurities and particles from reaching the vehicle's “blood” - is a guarantee of good engine performance, which also helps to reduce fuel consumption and pollutant emissions.

But can anyone change the oil in their vehicle? In reality, it's essential to go to a professional workshop where there are qualified people with the necessary tools and approved equipment, especially as this is an operation that currently requires electronic vehicle diagnostics for most vehicles. Knowledge of the right oil is crucial, depending on the specifications of the model and type of engine. In short, tasks or knowledge that are beyond the reach of the average driver.

On the other hand, another of the main reasons why oil changes should be carried out in a workshop is that any user is not allowed to manage the waste (the oil and filter that are replaced). Proper waste management in a workshop is essential to avoid soil and water pollution, as well as to avoid possible sanctions for non-compliance with environmental regulations.

Finally, Euromaster reminds us that the oil and filter should be changed according to each manufacturer's instructions (depending on the number of kilometers) and, if you haven't covered that mileage, at least once a year. That way, your car won't bleed out this summer.
