Lisbon, April 26th: Mazars announces the hiring of Ricardo Cardoso as Senior Manager for the area of Assurance Financial Services. This hiring reinforces the commitment to strengthen its skills in this area of activity with a view to the growth and development of the financial services area, led by partners Filipe Carvalho and Pedro Jesus.

With a greater focus on Internal Control, Internal Auditing, Money Laundering and other areas of Compliance, Ricardo Cardoso will bring all his experience to support the development and growth of this area.

The hiring is part of Mazars' ongoing investment program, which has sought sustained growth, focused on the market's recognition of the quality of its services and increasing the scope of its areas of operation.
Ricardo Cardoso has professional experience in areas such as auditing and consultancy, having worked on projects involving Compliance, He has also worked on internal audits, money laundering, fraud, internal governance and ESG at various financial institutions. His experience includes coordinating internal audit projects in national and international financial institutions, highlighting his knowledge and understanding of the complexities of the sector.
The new Senior Manager will develop Mazars' range of services related to Internal Control, Internal Auditing, Money Laundering and other Compliance matters, namely in the most regulated sectors, such as Banking and other Financial Institutions, Insurance Companies and entities supervised by the CMVM.
“Since the creation of our team dedicated to Financial Services (which took place in mid-2018), we felt it was essential to create a sub-team, more focused on the area of Assurance, with specialized competence in the various regulatory issues, so that we could offer the market a quality service in the different types of non-audit services required by the financial sector.”, says Filipe Carvalho, also Partner at Audit and Assurance Financial Services, .
Filipe Carvalho also said that “In addition to Auditing, there is no doubt that this area of Assurance will continue to gain relevance at Mazars, not only because the market demands a real alternative to the so-called “big four”, but also because regulatory requirements in the financial sector are increasing.”
For his part, Ricardo Cardoso comments on his appointment, which will have “a decisive role in improving the capabilities of this area and in providing Assurance services based on the best market practices”.
The new Senior Manager of Mazars Portugal also points out that “we will have a focus on current issues, the various risks of compliance, money laundering and terrorist financing, internal government and others related to the Financial Services market. Ricardo Cardoso has a solid education, including an Executive Master's Degree in Financial Analysis from IDEFE, an Executive Master's Degree in Management from INDEG/ISCTE and participation in the Advanced Management Program for Executives at Universidade Católica. He also has several certifications, including ICA Internal Auditor for Compliance Management Systems by the International Compliance Association and Foundation of financial Risk by the Global Association of Risk Professionals.
He has extensive experience in developing training in KYC, Risk Management, AML, GDPR and MiFID II). She has carried out compliance with Portuguese AML and Compliance reporting obligations to local Regulators for various types of Financial Institutions and Insurance Companies (BdP, CMVM and ASF). He was involved in the design and implementation of new policies - Market Abuse; Conflict of Interest; MiFID II Controls; Client Due Diligence; Correspondent Banks; AML; Compliance Function, and others.
He has experience in providing similar services, such as coordinating internal audit projects (as internal auditor) in national and international financial institutions.
