
Work of Ana Sofia Lopes continues to celebrate the civic and professional legacy of António Gentil Martins, one of the greatest names in Portuguese medicine, with public sessions, interaction with readers and moments of homage.
Lisbon, June 6th, 2025 - After the release of “António Gentil Martins: One life, many lives”, Ana Sofia Lopes, is starting a roadshow to promote conversation around the work. The initiative aims to promote direct contact with readers and continue, through civic reading, the tribute to the legacy, values and work of Professor Gentil Martins.
The book brings together unpublished testimonies, documents and a human narrative about the journey of a man who made medicine a mission and became a reference in the practice and defense of public service.
According to the author “This book inspires younger generations through Professor Gentil Martins' real example of courage, integrity and commitment. Much more than a talk about my book, this initiative aims to make younger generations aware of the importance of active citizenship, defending social causes and valuing and learning from exemplary lives, emphasizes Ana Sofia Lopes, a dentist, author of several works and with a long-standing commitment to civic and social causes.
The roadshow began on May 24th, at So many books, booksellers, the first of Lisbon's leading bookstores to present the book. On this occasion, she was joined by MP and university professor Liliana Reis for the presentation of the work.
The next stop is Lisbon Book Fair, on June 10 at 7 p.m. in the Praça Verde Auditorium. Here, the presentation of "António Gentil Martins: One life, many lives" will be attended by the author and Professor Gentil Martins himself.
In a presentation aimed at younger readers - the book is written with 8th, 9th and 10th graders in mind - readers will have the opportunity to actively interact with the panel, reinforcing their commitment to promoting active citizenship and civic values through the legacy and example of Gentil Martins' life.
This cycle of presentations will culminate on July 10 at 5pm at the Palácio da Independência with a special ceremony to celebrate the 95th birthday of Professor Gentil Martins, who will take the opportunity to present his latest scientific work “The Treatment of Hypospadias”.
