Collective 284 links three leading organizations

Collective 284

A partnership between the Luso-Brazilian Foundation, Laurel, and PWN Lisbon educates members of the three organizations on the importance of diversity.

Coletivo 284 is the common thread of the partnership, providing organizations with an artistic and cultural heritage and a shared vision of the role of culture in brands and organizations.

Lisbon, March 1, 2023 – As part of the 3rd edition of the IMPERFEITA exhibition—which opens on March 8, International Women’s Day— Collective 284 brings together the Luso-Brazilian Foundation, Laurel, and the Professional Women’s Network Lisbon (PWN Lisbon) with the aim of promoting culture, the arts, and the Portuguese-speaking world as a fundamental foundation for fostering diversity.

It is in this context that the three leading organizations in Portugal and around the world are celebrating—through a collaboration organized by Coletivo 284—a partnership aimed at fostering discussion and implementing initiatives centered on diversity as a cornerstone of a more just society.

Coletivo 284, founded by Portuguese entrepreneur Paulo André and Brazilian artist Adriana Scartaris, serves as the common thread of the partnership and provides the three organizations with an artistic and cultural heritage and a shared vision of the role of culture in branding and organizational life.

Based on a shared vision of the importance of culture, the arts, and the Portuguese-speaking world, and with the common goal of raising awareness of prominent figures and projects, the Luso-Brazilian Foundation, Laurel, and PWN Lisbon are joining forces to jointly promote high-quality initiatives and works—as well as their creators and contexts—to audiences in Portugal, Brazil, and all countries connected by the Portuguese-speaking world.

“Being part of this partnership represents a unique opportunity to underscore the importance of culture and the arts and how they bring together agents of change across the broader Portuguese-speaking world,” says Paulo Campos Costa, president of the Luso-Brazilian Foundation.

According to Laurel’s Secretary-General, Francisco Carvalheira, “Joining this partnership with these leading brands reinforces Laurel’s mission to highlight the quality of our heritage and create global synergies rooted in a local vision, through the power of culture, the arts, and the Portuguese-speaking world.”.

And according to Paula Perfeito, president of PWN Lisbon, “this convergence of strategy, ambition, and irreverence among the three organizations aligns with PWN Lisbon’s mission to help create and strengthen impactful leaders who, by drawing on the ever-expanding horizons of culture and the arts, can serve as an inspiration for an indispensable culture of diversity”.

The partnership celebration took place at Coletivo 284, a gallery that exudes art and ‘design,’ in an open space that is both underground and comfortable in the heart of Lisbon and which, throughout the month of March, is hosting a significant program of events and the 3rd edition of the exhibition IMPERFECT.

IMPERFEITA 1. OPENS ON MARCH 8

"THE IMPERFECT 1.3," an exhibition of paintings, sculptures, and installations, will be on view from March 8—International Women’s Day—through April 16 at 284 Gallery. The exhibition will be open to the public on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and admission is free.

After two years of focusing on the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, known for her portraits, self-portraits, and works influenced by nature and Mexican culture, IMPERFEITA is inviting another “imperfect” artist to participate in the project this year.

In 2023, paying tribute to the Art of Being a Woman, the exhibition brings to the stage a contemporary cultural icon—universally known as the Queen of Pop—who embodies the freedom to choose how one ages and challenges stereotypes, reminding us that it is not age that defines a woman.

“Age doesn’t define us” is the tagline for IMPERFEITA 1.3, a group exhibition featuring nearly 90 works by more than 30 artists of different nationalities, selected through a combination of invitations and open submissions. This artistic showcase brings to life a project that celebrates women with inspiring life stories; in this edition, the focus is on Frida Kahlo and the Queen of Pop—two global icons who were ahead of their time.

IMPERFEITA 1.3 serves as the backdrop for a series of initiatives organized through the partnership now being established, with events scheduled throughout the month of March (see calendar below).
