AUDITING AND NEW PATHS
Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) will gather for their 13th Congress to reflect on new directions. With the Minister of Finance opening the event and the Minister of Economy closing it, the event brings together leading speakers for an essential debate.
Lisbon, August 19, 2019 – The Order of Certified Public Accountants (OROC) is organizing the 13th Congress of Certified Public Accountants on September 12 at the Fórum Lisboa in Lisbon. The event’s theme is “Auditing – New Paths,” and development, new technologies, cybersecurity, and globalization are among the topics highlighted in a program featuring speakers of globally recognized standing.
The future of the economy and finance will be shaped by technological and social developments, and OROC is working to ensure that the auditing profession stays ahead of these—potentially unknown—paths, offering solutions and providing answers to problems and issues that are constantly evolving and changing.
Every three years, the ROC Congress has established itself as the premier event for reflecting on the most relevant issues, and for its 13th edition, on September 12, it will feature a panel of speakers who need no introduction, ensuring that the discussion at this event will be unmissable.
The opening of the 13th ROC Congress will be led by José Rodrigues de Jesus, President of the Order of Certified Public Accountants, in a panel that will also feature remarks by Professor Mário Centeno, Minister of Finance; Dr. Gabriela Figueiredo Dias, Chair of the Portuguese Securities Market Commission (CMVM); and Ernesto Cunha, Vice President of the Court of Auditors.
To discuss the topic Development and New Technologies A panel has been confirmed, consisting of Professor Fernanda Ilhéu, a researcher and professor at ISEG; Father Afonso Seixas Nunes, a Jesuit priest and professor at the University of Oxford; and Professor Arlindo Oliveira, president of the Instituto Superior Técnico.
After lunch, we'll discuss it Corporate Governance, Cybersecurity, and Globalization with Professor Nadim Habib, a faculty member at the Nova School of Business at Universidade Nova de Lisboa; Admiral António Gameiro Marques, Director-General of the National Security Office; and Nicolau Santos, President of LUSA and a journalist.
The next panel, featuring Dr. Isabel Ucha, President of Euronext; Dr. Francisco Miranda Rodrigues, President of the Portuguese Psychologists’ Association; and Alan Johnson, Vice President of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), will address the topic Markets, People, and Information.
Just as with the opening, the closing remarks will be delivered by José Rodrigues de Jesus, President of the Order of Certified Public Accountants (OROC), in a session that will also feature remarks by Óscar Figueiredo, Coordinator of the Organizing Committee for the 13th OROC Congress, and Professor Pedro Siza Vieira, Deputy Minister of Economy.
According to the Chair of the Organizing Committee of the 13th Congress of the Order of Certified Public Accountants (OROC), "”In times of volatility and constant change in the global economic and financial landscape, it is the role of auditing to strengthen organizations and help develop economies.". The 13th OROC Congress is the “a prime forum for sharing experiences and knowledge that can influence how current and future audit risks are addressed, whether in private companies or public entities.”. The President of OROC, José Rodrigues de Jesus, emphasizes that OROC has “has invested in best practices and wants to share the results of that effort with all stakeholders responsible for information quality,”, insists that we should “walking together.”.
