The internet has changed the way the public finds and shares information. Now, anyone can publicly pass on recommendations and advice, positioning themselves as experts in their own blog spaces, using social networks and gaining thousands of followers. As a result, they exert digital influence - and can have a huge impact on how a brand is perceived.

Digital influencers spend time and effort creating a loyal following. Their audience trusts them and the products and services they use. This proximity of interests allows digital influencers to offer direct insight into the wants and needs of the audience the brand wishes to reach. This allows them to create communication that adds value to the audience's experience.

But what are the main types of digital influencers in this context?

Specialized influencer - Sometimes it takes the expertise of an influencer to build a relationship and convert clicks into sales. The expert influencer has extensive knowledge in a specific field and an audience that follows their recommendations

Trendsetter - The "trendsetter" influencer wields social media power that can increase a brand's visibility. This type of influencer has a dedicated following and can be found in areas such as technology, beauty and fashion or entertainment.

Blogger - The influencer "blogger" is part influential expert and part trendsetter. They are the hybrid influencers that many brands seek out to foster relationships, increase sales and boost customer acquisition.

Celebrity - Celebrity endorsement of a brand comes in many forms. These influencers can be the protagonists of reality showsactors, sportspeople or managers.

Advocate - Often, a brand's most valuable influencers can be its most influential customers. Leveraging existing customers as brand advocates can lead others in the same field to purchase a certain product or service based on reviews and purchase recommendations.
