EPAL's energy self-sufficiency goes through Image4All

Image4All is a partner of EPAL in its quest to become 100% energy self-sufficient. In a consortium with Mota-Engil Ativ, Image4All is jointly responsible for the implementation of two photovoltaic power generation projects under the "EPAL 0%" project.

Lisbon, December 07, 2022 - Image4All is responsible for producing renewable energy at two EPAL plants. The contract, under the "EPAL 0% - Energy Neutrality" program, worth almost two million euros and signed last week, is the engineering and energy efficiency company's response to the water company's challenge to become 100% energy self-sufficient.

Image4All - in consortium with Mota-Engil Ativ - was awarded the contract for the Design/Construction of the Photovoltaic Power Generation Unit for self-consumption at the Valada-Tejo Catchment and the Photovoltaic Power Generation Unit for self-consumption at the Vale da Pedra WTP, including Operation and Maintenance services.

energy"Image4All's priority is to ensure the optimization of energy use, in the certainty that energy efficiency increases and improves business profitability and sustainability. This project responds to EPAL's strategy of achieving energy neutrality in all its operations"summarizes João Loureiro, CEO of Image4All.

The signing of the contract followed the public presentation of the "EPAL 0% - Energy Neutrality" program. The program will enable EPAL to achieve energy neutrality in all its operations, through an integrated mix of energy efficiency actions, production of its own energy from renewable sources with the installation of hydroelectric, wind and photovoltaic power plants, installation of microgrids, digitalization and storage operations in water reservoirs.

"Energy optimization in its many aspects is structural for the future and Image4All is working to boost and develop it," says Image4All's CEO. "Over the years we have been innovating in our responses and broadening the range of solutions to add value to clients and projects in a variety of sectors"adds João Loureiro.

Image4All provides engineering and technical consultancy services in the diagnosis, development and integrated implementation of energy solutions in three main areas: energy efficiency, electric vehicle charging points and drinking water safety and quality.

The object of the contract - worth 1.947 million euros and with a one-year execution period - includes the design and preparation of the project for the Self-Consumption Production Units (UPAC) and the execution of the contract, construction of infrastructure, civil construction and structures, mechanical and electrical installations and installation and commissioning of the UPAC.

The contract also includes the execution of the interconnection infrastructures of each UPAC (without injection into the Public Service Electricity Grid (RESP)), including the medium-voltage transmission and transformation infrastructures and the power injection limitation devices in the RESP.

The contract awarded to the Mota-Engil Ativ // Image4all Consortium is part of "EPAL 0%", a project with which, by the end of the year, EPAL will have investments in excess of 55 million euros under construction, under contract and out to tender. The development of this project requires the implementation of measures that are estimated to amount to around 83 million euros and involve electricity consumption of 136 GWh/year.
