Reviewers are called upon to choose the next president

The Statutory Auditors are preparing to elect the next members of the Governing Bodies of the Order of Statutory Auditors. The program of the single list in the running, chaired by José Rodrigues de Jesus, focuses on integrating the transversal contribution of the sector's professionals, in order to respond to the increased demands for trust identified in the market and desires within the Audit activity.

 

Logo_OROCLisbon, November 21, 2017 - The Statutory Auditors (ROC) are preparing to elect their new President for the 2018-2020 term, in an election in which a single list is running, headed by José Rodrigues de Jesus, candidate for President and current Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Order of Statutory Auditors (OROC), and Óscar Figueiredo, candidate for Vice President of the OROC Board of Directors and currently a member of the Order's Board of Directors. The list is presented as a proposal to continue the work that has been carried out by the current Board, along with an analysis of the circumstances now prevailing within the auditing profession.

The General Electoral Assembly of the Order of Chartered Accountants will take place on November 29, 2017, with polling stations operating uninterruptedly from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at OROC's headquarters in Lisbon and at OROC's Northern Regional Services in Porto. The electoral process covers a universe of 1,430 statutory auditors.

For José Rodrigues de Jesus and Óscar Figueiredo, candidates for President and Vice-President of the OROC Board of Directors, respectively, "It does not seem easy to fulfill the tasks identified for this three-year period, either for the Order or for each of its members. The members of this list agree to share a common effort to ensure the success of this project in all its different stages. We are sure that only with the close collaboration of all those involved, with their advice, suggestions, opinions, sharing of successes and difficulties and help in the joint formation of a cohesive program that responds to the anxieties of the profession can we hope to reach an acceptable level of achievement."

The experience of current members of OROC bodies is joined by auditors who have recently joined the profession and who, for the first time, have the opportunity to intervene directly, in a logic of intense collaboration. In this sense, the program presented is described as not corresponding to the unique vision of a restricted group of promoters, but is the result of the demand felt among the majority of professionals in the market.

In the program presented by the list competing in this election process for OROC's Governing Bodies, the following guidelines stand out collaboration with all institutionsand especially with regulators and supervisors, in structuring an information system based on the best international practices; development of tasks that provide the most relevant social and economic recognition of the profession; continued improvement of quality control of service provision as a guarantee of greater credibility; intensified training so that the normative, technical and deontological dimensions of the activity of proofreaders are absorbed, incorporating the accelerated technological evolution; emphasizing access to the profession as a condition of their subsistence; improving the organization of the Orderin both the internal aspects and the tools for dealing with colleagues and institutions; review of the Order's support structure to ROCs considering the greater demands that arise in their daily lives.

 

 

Biographical Note José Rodrigues de Jesus
José Rodrigues de Jesus has a degree in Economics from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto and is a Chartered Accountant.
He worked at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto between 1968 and 2005 and ended his university career as a visiting assistant professor, teaching various subjects in several postgraduate courses.
Since 1974, it has provided consultation and support to a number of companies in different branches of economic activity, in the financial, accounting and tax fields, and has carried out various studies, focusing on investment, the recovery and liquidation, in and out of court, of companies and the valuation of companies and institutions, outside of statutory auditing.
As a Chartered Accountant, he has been a member of the Supervisory Bodies of several entities in various branches of economic activity.
His professional commitment can be seen in his presence on numerous committees, including the Accounting Standards Committee, the European Investment Bank Audit Committee and the Reprivatization Monitoring Committee.
He is currently Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director of the Northern Regional Services of the Portuguese Institute of Chartered Accountants (Ordem dos Revisores Oficiais de Contas), where he has served on the Board of Governors, the Disciplinary Board and various Technical Committees.
 He is also a member of the Order of Certified Accountants, where he is a member of the Studies Office, and of the Order of Economists, where he is Vice-President of the Representative Assembly, and is a member of APAF - Portuguese Association of Financial Analysts and the Association of Former Students of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto, institutions where he is Chairman of the Supervisory Board.
Óscar Manuel Machado de Figueiredo Biographical Note
He has been a Chartered Accountant since 1989 and is a member of the Order of Chartered Accountants (OROC) and the Order of Certified Accountants.
He has been a member of OROC's Board of Directors since January 2009 and represents OROC in similar international professional bodies.
He currently serves on some supervisory boards of companies and other entities.
He was Vice-Chairman of the Accounting Standardization Committee (between April 2013 and November 2017) and Coordinator of the Public Accounting Standardization Committee that drew up the Accounting Standardization System for Public Administrations (SNC-AP).
He began his professional activity in auditing in January 1979 at Ernst & Young, where he led the Audit Department in Portugal and was Chairman of the Board of Directors of this SROC between 2002 and 2006. During this period, he was responsible for managing a portfolio of audit clients from a wide range of national and international business sectors, and was a member of the supervisory bodies of a variety of companies.
Since 2006 he has participated in various consultancy projects relating to the implementation of International Accounting Standards and International Auditing Standards in Portugal and the PALOP countries (Angola, Mozambique and Cape Verde), including participation as a trainer (from 2008 to the present). In Mozambique, he took part in the public finance reform project as part of the IPSAS implementation study (2013).
He has a degree in Accounting and Administration from the Higher Institute of Accounting and Administration of Coimbra and an Advanced Management Course from the Postgraduate School of Economic and Business Sciences of the Portuguese Catholic University.
